How To Secure A Team Invitation To Quest for the Crown™ - The National Step Championship

There are two components used to determine the teams that are invited to the national step championship:

1. A point system has been established to give credit points to step teams that have won or participated in organized step shows (see below)



2. Interested teams must submit an invitation packet that will be reviewed by the StepNationals competition committee.

What Comprises The Invitation Packet?

There are three (3) required items you must submit in order to be considered for an invitation to the national step championship:

1. A letter introducing your step team to our competition committee
   
   
2. VHS video tape or DVD of team performance from January 1, 2008 - January 30, 2009 (items submitted are not returnable)
   
   
3. Point system award questionnaire.

Although your team performance video must be physically mailed to us, you may email your responses for the point form and questionnaire. Send any questions and responses to 2009@stepnationals.com. Please provide all the necessary contact information in your email.

Where To Send Your Invitation Packet

You should mail your completed invitation packet to the following address:

Important Dates You Should Remember

• November 1, 2008 - Teams may begin submitting invitation packets to competition committee
  
  
• January 31, 2009 - Last day for submitting invitation packet
  
  
• February 1, 2009 - Begin invitation packet review by competition committee
  
  
• March 2, 2009 - Official invitations extended to chosen teams
  
  
• March 6, 2009 - Informational packets and confirmation statement mailed to teams that have accepted invitations (e.g., directions, lodging, staging, etc.)
  
  
• March 31, 2009 - Deadline for invited teams to return confirmation statement

StepNationals Point System Matrix

The following point system is used to help narrow the submissions into the best group of step teams that will compete for the national step title. This point system is not the sole deciding factor in terms of what teams are invited to Charlotte, but rather an additional tool used to identify the best of the best.

25	Chapter (step team) in good standing with organization's national headquarters (chapter is active, not on probation or suspended)
20	Step champions at Boule, Conclave or National Convention step show
10	Participation in Boule, Conclave or National Convention step show
10	Step champions at Provincial, District or Regional step show
5	Participation in Provincial, District or Regional step show
10	Step champions in an organized step show event other than Boule, Conclave, National Convention, Provincial, District or Regional step shows (points awarded per step show)
5	Participation in an organized step show event other than Boule, Conclave, National Convention, Provincial, District or Regional step shows (points awarded per step show)
5	Step champions at college or university homecoming step show (undergraduate chapters)
1	Participation in college or university homecoming step show (undergraduate chapters)
15	Participation in local community service activities

StepNationals Point System Award Questionnaire

Please provide answers to the following questions with your invitation packet submission:

• Name of event, location, date and contact number for any step competitions / shows that qualify for points.
  
  
• Is your chapter (step team) in good standing with your organization's national headquarters? (If yes, award 25 points)
  
  
• Has your chapter (step team) won or participated in a Boule, Conclave or National Convention step show? (If won, award 20 points; if participated, award 10 points)
  
  
• Has your chapter (step team) won or participated in a Provincial, District or Regional step show? (If won, award 10 points; if participated, award 5 points)
  
  
• Has your chapter (step team) won or participated in an organized step show event other than Boule, Conclave, National Convention, Provincial, District or Regional step shows? (If won, award 10 points; if participated, award 5 points - multiply number of step shows by applicable points)
  
  
• Has your chapter (step team) won or participated in your college or university's homecoming step show (undergraduate chapters)? (If won, award 5 points; if participated, award 1 point)
  
  
• Has your chapter (step team) participated in any local community service activities? (If yes, award 15 points)
